Sectors > EV Charging
As the number of EV’s on our roads grows, the electricity network has to adapt. In locations where numbers of EV’s need to charge at the same time, or high capacity charging is needed, the grid may not be up to the job or, for temporary situations, not be available at all.
A smart feature of gridtogo™ is that we can use a low capacity grid supply and turn it into something more powerful using the energy saved in the battery. It may be a bus station, a parcel delivery depot or corporate HQ; the lack of power availability could be what prevents EV’s being adopted. The cost and timescales involved with grid upgrade can be significant too. For corporate promotions or conferences, sports and music events or seasonal holiday hot-spots, grid power may be lacking or not available at all. In these situations, installing an upgrade or running a diesel generator will be undesirable because of cost, environmental impact and timescales.

For permanent installations, gridtogo™ can be connected to your existing but limited capacity grid supply and utilise what is available, drawing on this power continuously but without overloading. Energy is stored in the battery ready to be discharged when EV’s are connected and demand for power is high.
Our smart charging technology can also be used to control and ration energy by interacting with the vehicles so that all the available power can be evenly distributed and ensure it is used as effectively as possible. Where it’s an option, gridtogo™ can capture energy from solar PV, rather than sending that energy back to the grid. Other functions such as peak lopping or load shifting or even full islanding are features that will help to maximise the return on your investment.
In temporary situations, such as for events, gridtogo™ rental solutions can be used to provide an alternative to running a diesel generator so that vehicles can be charged without impact on the environment. Often it is possible to “borrow” power from an available socket or other connection nearby. gridtogo™ can be programmed to make best use of what is available but without overloading the supply.
A temporary solution may be what you need while waiting for a grid upgrade or before you can decide where your EV charge points are best located. Our solutions enable you to build your EV fleet without being held back by power availability challenges.
